One of the most delightfully surprising and thoroughly charming real-life connections from the cast of The Big Bang Theory involves two of its main members sharing a history that predates the show by nearly two decades. This fascinating backstory was brought back to light during a group appearance on Conan O’Brien’s talk show, leading to some hilariously awkward and unforgettable television.
A First Kiss at Age 14
Mayim Bialik (who played Amy) and Johnny Galecki (who played Leonard) first locked lips on screen during a 1990 episode of the hit 90s sitcom Blossom. At the time, both young actors were just 14 years old.
As it turns out, that moment held an even deeper personal significance for both of them. While recalling the memory with Conan, Bialik made a surprising revelation:
“It might have been my first real-life kiss also, not just on a show.”
The episode, titled “Sex, Lies and Teenagers”, featured Galecki as one of the boys that the main characters, Blossom and Six, sneak off with to attend a party.
Recreating the Iconic Moment Live on Camera
When Conan O’Brien pulled out a throwback photo of that exact scene during their 2016 cast interview, the studio erupted in laughter. Co-host Andy Richter wasted no time poking fun at Johnny’s 90s wardrobe, joking: “Mayim, were you mad he got the nicer blouse?”
That’s when Kunal Nayyar (Raj) said exactly what the entire audience was thinking: “Do it again!”, while Jim Parsons (Sheldon) jokingly quipped, “What kind of show is this?”
Despite their hilarious initial hesitation and adamantly refusing, Mayim and Johnny eventually gave in to the crowd’s cheers and recreated the kiss live on camera—decades later and considerably more experienced.
To top the whole night off, Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco (Penny) went along with the gag and attempted their own on-screen lip lock, making it one of the most epic late-night moments for The Big Bang Theory fandom.
